Justin Lin is Directing Star Trek 3: These are the rumoured titles.

Justin Lin is rumored to be the Director for Star Trek 3. This is nothing but good news. Lin is a great action director. The best Fast and Furious movies are all his. What do I expect from Star Trek 3 now that Lin is directing? I want a Vin Diesel cameo—in Groot form may be too much to ask—and I want a ridiculous title.

He was a champion at titling the Fast and Furious movies. Check these out.

  • Fast and Furious: Tokyo Drift
  • Fast and Furious
  • Fast 5
  • Fast and Furious 6
  • Furious 7

Is that not the weirdest list of names for a movie series? It barely makes sense. It’s also more complicated than you think. While the sixth movie was marketed as Fast and Furious 6 the title card in the actual movie is Furious 6. That kind of nonsense makes me so happy.

I guess it should have been obvious from the title of the last Star Trek movie that J.J. Abrams was calling Lin out, challenging him to a terrible title showdown. Lin has a challenge ahead of him. Star Trek Into Darkness is the worst title of a Star Trek movie ever. I’ve done some thinking and have come up with some titles to help Lin.

  • Star Trek 3ish
  • Star Tr3K
  • Star Trek to an Actual Star
  • Galaxy Quest 2: The Search for Shatner
  • Star Trek: Furious Ferengi

Even though the titles of Fast and Furious movies are laughably confusing at times I am genuinely way more excited for the new Star Trek than I was before. I look forward to seeing Lin ignore the laws of physics in space. A Star Trek heist movie? A starship race around the galaxy? Whatever it ends up being I’m excited.

How do you guys feel about this news?
