NaNoWriMo Strategies: Use a Reward System

There are three big activities for me in November. In an effort to motivate me to meet my word count I’m going to give myself a word count that I have to meet before I go to these.

On November 5 me and my wife are going to a concert featuring Rural Alberta Advantage and Dan Mangan. That’s only five days into NaNoWriMo. I think at this time I should at least be at 8k.

On November 8 a movie comes out called Skyfall. It has been a long time since me and my wife have gone to a movie and we go to a lot of movies. There just hasn’t been anything good since the summer. We are really looking forward to watching this. Especially since the early reviews from across the pond are saying it could be the best James Bond ever.

I’ve gotten over the need to see awesome movies on opening day. The crowds are a bit much. I would rather go a few days later. So I plan on going whenever I meet a word count of 20K.

On the 15 of November We are going to the Metric concert. This is an easy goal to set. if I’m on track then by this time I should be halfway to 50k so before I go to the concert I want to be at 25K.

I have nothing planned after the 15 but there has to be some kind of awesome reward for finishing NaNoWriMo. It has to be better than two awesome (hopefully) concerts and James Bond combined. I’ll think of something.

  1. What rewards can I give myself? Well, if I survive until November 17th, I get to move apartments, so … that should be … fun?
