NaNoWriMo Strategies: Get Work Done Early

This is the first time I’ve done full time school and NaNoWriMo so I’m trying to come up with as many strategies as possible. Don’t let the title of this one deceive you. I don’t plan on starting my novel early (but that does give me an idea), that would be cheating and would defeat the whole purpose of NaNoWriMo. The work I’m thinking about getting done early is my school work.

Of course there is some stuff that I won’t be able to do, like scheduled tests, but I have three or four essays and papers due in November. There’s nothing stopping me from getting those done early or at the very least getting a first draft of them done.

Getting school work done early is breaking new ground for me. I’m the champ of leaving things until the last minute. Just ask my former classmates. One time in speech writing class I wrote my speech durning the class I had to give it in. I got a B. getting three or four essays done a month early will be a shocking improvement. It will also give me way more time to write in November and also take away some of the stress I am anticipating.

Less stress is always a good thing. I like to have fun when I write. Like I did when I wrote Catalyst, which was my 2010 NaNoWriMo book.
