The Killers

Did you know that the lead singer of The Killers is a Mormon?

It might not be a big deal to you and I don’t mean it to be but it is a big deal for me. It’s a big deal for me because I love to see an active member of the church who is producing quality works of creativity meant for a general audience.  It’s exciting to see a fellow Mormon be good at what he does and also being able to keep his standards.

There are a ton of good Mormon writers who just write for a Mormon audience. Chris Heimerdinger is my favourite. But I don’t want to write for only that audience. I want to write for everyone.

One of my goals as a writer is to write exciting and well constructed stories that wont require people to lower their standards to read.  Seeing that someone as famous as Brandon Flowers doing that, except with music, gives me hope.

If you are looking for the literary equivalent, Orson Scott Card, arguably one of the best science fiction writers alive on planet Earth, is also a Mormon. If I could ever write a book half as good as Ender’s Game or Pathfinder I will have accomplished a lot with my writing career.

  1. I did not know that. I am not mormon, but I feel the same way when I see Christian authors/performers succeed. 🙂

    Happy A-Zing!
