I got engaged. Here is the story. We decided to post it online so that we don’t have to tell the story every time we run into someone new.
A year ago Maddy took me to a spot in Waterton that she escaped to when her roommates were annoying. She worked there for two summers so she knew all the good places to escape to. It’s around the lake under the Prince of Whales hotel. I feel like I may have spelt the name of the hotel wrong but I refuse to look up the real way.
When we were at her spot we had a contest about who could keep their feet in the water the longest. It was freezing cold but I’m a competitor so I was determined to win. I won and she asked what I wanted my prize to be. I thought about asking for a kiss but chickened out. We weren’t dating at the time and didn’t start dating until she moved back to Edmonton in September. So I said I didn’t know what I wanted. No prize was claimed that day.
A year later (this last saturday) we went back to that spot. It was our one year anniversary. When we got to the spot I reminded her of that story. She changed the subject so I brought it up again and then some old people were walking past so I couldn’t do what I wanted. We kept talking and shuffling around the rocks. I was very nervous about what I was going to say and how I was going to get there because every time I tried to bring it up I was thwarted. There were some tense moments.
I had planned on kneeling but it was too rocky and I thought I might fall over. It was hard enough just to walk over the jagged rocks. There was no way to do this traditionally and live to tell the tale. So I waited until we were sitting on a rock next to each other.
I brought up the contest again and said that I wanted my prize to be that she married me. She couldn’t believe I was doing it right then and was very excited about things. Then I tried to put the ring on the wrong hand. Then she said yes!
So, basically I won the sweetest prize ever.
Also, we saw a kid trying to feed a deer and the deer kicked the little girl in the hand.
